Canada Day!

HAPPY CANADA DAY!

so it's a couple days late, we're still recovering from the madness that was the Great Canadian Day Ducky 500! That's right, 500 rubber ducks racing down the Puntledge River! It was a sight to see. I'll get to that excitement in a minute, but first we have to say something about the parade. The past two Canada Day's we have spent in Ottawa, so it's a little hard for the Comox Valley to compete on the same stage with the nation's capital. Let's just say we were longing for Ottawa, actually we would have accepted the Great Raymond Parade. The parade started about 20 mins late, had every fire truck in the valley, huge waits in between that made us hope it was over only to dash those hopes when the locales didn't leave and the worst part of all, NO candy was thrown! What kind of a parade doesn't throw any candy? Next year we'll have to try Parksville or maybe Victoria, or if Loni gets her way, we'll be part of the mass return to Southern Alberta for July 1st. Sorry if I'm making this sound like we had a terrible day, it was just the parade that wasn't to fun. The rest of the day was great!

The festivities didn't end with the parade. We then turned from our seats on the parade route to the events at the park. A big family event, with a petting zoo, cotton candy, astro jumps, gymnastics demo and more. But the highlight was definatly the big race. Seating was at a premium, good thing we got our spot 30 mins before race time. It was kinda funny because once the cannon went off starting the race, it took about 20 mins for the ducks to get in sight and probably another 10 mins for them to cross the finish line. Anyway, the whole thing is put on by the rotary club to raise money for projects in the community. It was fun.

And lastly back home for some birthday cake. Tavie was so excited to surprise me with cake and a birthday lunch to Boston Pizza. She is such a sweet little girl. Thanks to Loni and the kids for making the transition to 30 such a great day!
