Remembrance Day

With kids in school I now get the opportunity to attend the school Remembrance Day assemblies.  All the parents arrived first and got settled, then the kids very quietly entered the gym as live bag pipes played. Brecken's class recited a poem and sang a song.  We also got the privilege of listening to some veterans share their experiences.  Since we live in a city with a military base, a lot of the parents were dressed in their full uniforms. This has been a great learning experience for my kids because not only do they learn about past wars but they also get to see what the military still does today.  They both have friends that have parents who have been deployed or are currently deployed.  They get to see not only the sacrifices that the men and women give but also the sacrifices that the families go through.  Tavie and Brecken both have a better understanding of the significance of Remembrance Day. We are all thankful for the freedoms that we enjoy and for the selfless acts of those who have served our country.

  1. The Remembrance Day assembly is my favourite one to attend, too. Looks like you are all happy and grateful!

  2. It truly is eye-opening to move to a city with a military base. I had no idea how many people were currently serving and sacrificing for our Country. What a great opportunity for your children to learn that at such a young age.
