Fossil Hunters!
This summer we have been trying to do some sort of educational thing ever day. On the list today was to find fossils. We had heard that a river not far from here is full of them. So doing a little research I found out that the thing to look for was Ammonite fossils and clams.
So we headed to Trent River to hopefully find some for ourselves. We were not looking for a whole Ammoite. (Although that would be amazing) Just little pieces of them.
Not long after heading to the river we started finding them. The Trent River is made up of Marine Shale. We found that if you picked up the shale and hit it against a rock it would crack and we found all sorts of things inside it.
In the beginning just Brad and myself were finding the small pieces of Ammonites in the rocks. Tavie started to get a little discouraged, but then she found a clam fossil! She was SO excited! From that point on she turned into a regular paleontologist! Finding lots of good fossils. She was really good at finding clams in the rocks.

Brad and I started getting a little competitive. Debating who was making the greatest finds. At one point we were searching in the same area and found a whole clam. Front and back together. I caim that I saw it first, he says that he did. Who knows, but it is pretty cool. In the picture below the clam in question is on the biggest rock on the top left. It is right on the bottom tip of that rock.
So we headed to Trent River to hopefully find some for ourselves. We were not looking for a whole Ammoite. (Although that would be amazing) Just little pieces of them.
